Dear friends and fellow artisans,
We are putting together an art exhibition to be held in the Record Ranch gallery at Cactus Music for Record Store Day (April 22, 2017). The idea is simple: create art on a vinyl record and the accompanying LP cover to be displayed as a pair with Record Props. Preferably, your piece would be original art that is relatively music-related in some fashion, but we won’t hold it against you if it’s not. (see example of how it will be displayed below)
2:12, Ack!, Alex Arzu, Anat Ronen, Annavy, Carlos Pozo, Chris Heard, Christina A. Tovar, Dual, El Nacho, Epikmoore, Eric Castorena, Eyesore, Fuzzy Grapefruit, Guerra Girl, HMD Stuff, Honeybones, James Burns, Jessica Rice, Jessica Rios, Katsola, Marco Guerra, Matt Manalo, Michael C. Rodriguez, Mobsolete, Molly Clark, Nano, Nibu, Nicky Davis, Rene Cruz, Shizoq, Shreddi, Tarbox, Wizard of Barge
Supplies / Medium / Sales
We’ll supply the records. We’ll supply the props and hang/install the show. All you have to do is supply the art. Any medium goes. We ask that you not add too much volume (texture / three dimensionality) to the LP cover as it needs to fit the Record Props when we hang on the wall. The show will run for a period of about 6 weeks (through the end of May) and Cactus Music asks for 40% commission on all artwork sold, so please price your work accordingly.

Record Store Day is the largest celebrated event of it’s kind, celebrating independent record stores around the world. Cactus Music is one of Houston’s most community-oriented record stores, drawing 700+ customers on Record Store Day each year. Record Props is the newest way to display and share vinyl records. And you are some of the most talented people we know. Let’s celebrate music and art with one another, and add one more nod to the creative prowess of Houston. Thanks for your consideration and all that you do.
Example of Record / Album Cover Pairings
Record Props pair vinyl records in front of the LP cover. You can be as creative as you’d like with each piece, bearing in mind a portion of the LP Cover is covered by the Vinyl Record (see below). For more examples visit: RecordProps on Instagram
